SUMMARY:Hazel Husbands
DESCRIPTION:In Loving Memory\n\n\n\nHazel, the 3rd of six children and the 2nd girl, was born to the late Rhoda White of Dayrells Road in Barbados on December 27th 1938.\nShe will be deeply missed by her children Darwin and Carol (Delroy); her stepson Audley; her grand-daughters Shanelle, Lee and Miya; her great-grandchildren Carter and Savannah; her sister Jean Pickering; her nephews Ricardo, Dennis, Jurome, Xavier and Dwayne.\nShe is predeceased by her husband Winston; her brothers Dennis, Harold, Edwin and Bentley; her nephews Curtis, and Nathan; her niece Rosemary and her “grandson” Buddy.\nHazel spent her formative years in Barbados with her siblings, cousins and aunts (otherwise known as the White Sisters). She always ensured her younger brothers were okay and would sometimes wait at their all-boys school to take care of the bullies.\nHazel immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1963 under the West Indian Domestic program and worked with the Carson family. On December 17, 1966, she married Winston Husbands, who was also born in Barbados. When her children were born, she gave up full time work and dedicated her life to her family. She introduced her children to Sunday school, WWF Wrestling and the Blue Jays. Hazel and her family resided in Toronto until 1975 when they moved east to Pickering. It was a big move but she was comforted knowing that her sister, her brother Harold and her cousin Llewellyn (Calvin) were in close proximity.\nShe was a person who figured it out and didn’t like to rely on or be a bother to anyone. Oftentimes she would walk home from appointments while her family drove around in a panic looking for her. When asked how she got home, Hazel would answer, “With the two good feet the Lord gave me.” She enjoyed various genres of music including Country and Western, Boy George, Rod Stewart, Gospel and Soca and would often be singing and dancing at home. Although Hazel liked being at home she looked forward to the telephone conversations with her cousin Rosemary, Veronica, Maureen (Aggie) and her cousin Arlen. Hazel was delighted to go on trips to the United States and especially Barbados with Winston. On her last trip to Barbados she visited Dame Maizie Barker-Welch and was recognized instantly after not seeing her for over 50 years.\nHazel was once a fierce mama bear who protected her children when provoked and disciplined with a wooden spoon. When her grandchildren were born, Hazel became the proud and doting grandmother, who was almost unrecognizable to Darwin and Carol. She shopped and cooked according to the orders placed by her granddaughters and watched whatever cartoons, the grands and later Carter aka Nuggie, watched. Known as Grandma and GiGi, Hazel cherished the time spent with and spoiling her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.\nForever loved, Hazel will not be forgotten as memories of her will live on through her family and friends in Toronto, Montreal, Barbados, New York and England.\nA reception will be held after the service at the McLean Community Centre, 95 Magill Drive, Ajax, ON L1S 3K7 from 3pm to 6pm (905-428-7711)\n \n\nTechnical Difficulties Disclaimer:\n*In the event of technical difficulties, kindly refresh the webpage.
