Alistair MacRae Kennedy
In Loving Memory
It is with love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Alistair MacRae Kennedy.
Alistair was born in 1938 to Farquhar and Jessie Kennedy in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the second of four siblings: John (predeceased), Elizabeth, and Robert.
Raised in Glasgow, Alistair graduated from Strathclyde University with an honors degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Mary Ann (Anna) Reaper in 1961. Together, they were blessed with three children: Doug, Rhona (predeceased in 2019), and Neil.
Alistair was a loving grandfather to Lauren, Graham, Christopher, Jessica, Margot and
Ewan.
In 1964, Alistair’s career took the family to London, England, and in 1974 they immigrated to Canada. Settling in North York and then Scarbough, they faithfully attended Wishing Well Acres Baptist Church, becoming active members and forming many lasting friendships. His career led him to work in many locations including Texas, Malaysia, Korea and Calgary.
After retirement, Alistair and Anna continued to travel, enjoying many vacations throughout Europe, Australia and North America. In 2013, desiring a quieter life closer to family, Alistair and Anna moved to Pickering where they attended Forest Brook Community Church. Alistair greatly enjoyed his backyard and walks with Anna in their neighbourhood until the onset of Alzheimer’s required a move into Lakeridge Retirement home in 2023. We are very grateful to the staff of Lakeridge’s Memory Care Team for the great personal and loving care provided to Alistair.
Alistair was a thoughtful man with many interests and passions, including classical music, reading, woodworking, cycling, and spending time with his family. He is lovingly remembered by his children and grandchildren for his devotion and commitment to family.
Many fond memories remain of time spent outdoors in the backyard enjoying barbecues, as well as vacations “up north” in Muskoka and Parry Sound.
He will be sadly missed by friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Alistair’s favorite charities such as The Salvation army or Sunnybrook Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
