In Loving Memory
Antoinette (Nettie) Yuen
Sept 19 1962 to Feb 24 2025
Partner to Sean Figueroa, Sister to Michele Yuen-McDonald, (Scott), ‘Aunt Addie’ to Alex and James McDonald. Beloved by all who knew her.
Nettie grew up in Ajax Ont., lost her father Gregory to cancer at a young age, and was raised with love by her single mother Bernadette, her grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins near and far. She attended St Bernadette’s Catholic School (winning the religion award in grade 8) and Ajax High School.
She studied at York University, Class of ‘85, and became part of a group of friends there that she held dear throughout her life, including Emilio, Peter, PK, Solomon and Sue (who was Nettie’s true guardian angel during her illness).
It was at York that she discovered competitive figure skating, which became one of her passions, leading her team to an OWIAA Final in 1984. For the rest of her life, Nettie kept her skates in the trunk of her car, always on the lookout for ‘some good ice’. Her nephews have fond memories of being taught to skate by ‘Addie’
Another big part of Nettie’s life was music, and piano in particular. At family events, she rarely needed much encouragement to sit down and start playing. She turned this love into a successful career selling Yamaha pianos for many years, and also worked for Confederation Life, Manulife and CIBC.
Nettie’s family would like to thank the staff at Michael Garron Hospital, particularly Dr. Andrew, nurse Maricris and the entire palliative care unit.
Donations in Nettie’s name to pancreaticcancercanada.ca would be appreciated.
