The family of Catherine Joyce Phillip announces her passing on Friday, September 25, 2026, in Oshawa, Ontario, at the age of 83. She passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Catherine was born on February 1, 1943, in Birch Grove, Grenada, to John Oliver Andrews and Mcleana Andrews (née Morris). The family name was Andrews; it was recorded as Andrew upon her arrival in Canada. Known as Joyce to her close friends, she made the brave journey from Grenada to Canada in 1969, determined to build a better life for herself and her children.

Joyce earned her nursing certification and worked at the Ina Grafton Gage Home for more than 35 years, caring for others throughout her career. She worked just as hard to provide for her own family. As her family remembers, “We didn’t have it all, but we had love, a roof over our heads, and food on the table.”

Her kindness reached beyond her home. Joyce opened her door to people who needed a place to stay and helped others from Grenada make a new start in Canada. In retirement, she spent time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings in Canada and abroad.

Joyce is survived by her daughters Stephanie, Beatrice, Ingrid (Gary), and Gail (Dave); her grandchildren Romaine, Jerome (Michelle), Bianca (Jerome), Sherri (Curtis), Chanel, John, Taijah, Tyra, Isabella, Daniel (Crystal), Kirk (Victoria), and Tyrone; her great-grandchildren; her brothers George, Gordon, and David; her sisters Shirley, Miralda, and Bernice; and many nieces and nephews across Grenada, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She was predeceased by her daughter Jacqueline and her siblings Ottley, Bibiana (Vivian), Gemma, and Remmie.

Her family will remember her generosity, determination, and willingness to help others.

The visitation will be held at McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax, Ontario L1T 2Z7 on Friday, October 16, 2026 from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 11:00am. A private cremation will take place at a later date.
