Herman Roberts

In Loving Memory

It is with deep love and gratitude that the family of Herman Orlando “Robbie” Roberts announces his passing at Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, Ontario, at the age of 92. Born on April 20, 1933, in Questelles, St. Vincent, Herman was the beloved son of Conrad and Agatha Roberts, and one of eight children.

To his family, Herman was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who led with love and quiet strength. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Cheryl; his son André Roberts, late daughter-in-law Wendy, and their daughters Alicia and Taylor; his son Deighton Roberts and daughter-in-law Nicole Bourjot, and their children Saira and Gabe; and his daughter Raquel McPherson and son-in-law Denham, and her sons Marlon McIntyre, Denham, and Tristan, along with Marlon’s wife Alesha and their children Kaiden, Mila, Miko, and Micah. He was predeceased by his brothers Victor, Lechmere, and Calvin, and by Veronica’s twin, who passed away at birth, and is lovingly remembered by his sisters Pearlina, Eurina, Veronica, and Celia.

Herman’s story began in St. Vincent, where he learned the values that shaped his life: hard work, humility, and helping others. In his early twenties, he was a teacher in St. Vincent and travelled to England to study but soon returned home to start a small transportation company called GTS. As the business grew, he began investing in real estate, unknowingly laying the groundwork for his future career. His early success reflected the drive and determination that defined his life.

Eager to deepen his skills, Herman later returned to England to train as an electrical technician. There, he began his career with Decca Radar, a company recognized for its work on marine and heavy radar systems. During his time in England, he reunited with Cheryl, the love of his life, and they were married on December 9, 1967, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and mutual respect.

In 1968, Herman and Cheryl welcomed their first child, André, and made the bold decision to move to Canada in search of new opportunities. They settled in Scarborough, Ontario, where they built a home filled with love, perseverance, and faith. Their family grew with the arrival of Deighton and Raquel, creating a household that became the heart of many cherished memories.

Herman worked tirelessly to provide for his family and build a life of purpose. In the early 1980s, he discovered his calling in real estate, helping many families find homes of their own. Known for his integrity, patience, and calm presence, he approached every challenge with quiet determination and an unwavering belief that faith, perseverance, and honesty could overcome anything.

A man of many interests, Herman loved coaching soccer, playing tennis and squash, and even learned to ski at 60. He worked out daily, often for two hours, and had a lifelong passion for tinkering and fixing things. Known for his kindness and quiet confidence, he was rarely seen without one of his bespoke suits, always ready for any occasion.

Herman’s life was defined by faith, discipline, and compassion. Even after suffering four strokes beginning in 2008, he faced every challenge with courage and grace, inspiring those around him with his strength and optimism.

He will be remembered for his generosity, warmth, and unwavering love for his family. Herman and Cheryl’s enduring partnership remains a lasting example of devotion and faith that will continue to inspire generations.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
