Shouxin Deng

In Loving Memory

In Loving Memory of Shouxin Deng
July 6, 1968 – July 21, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Shouxin Deng, who passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with metastatic cholangiocarcinoma. He lived a life defined by resilience, humility, and devotion to his family, friends, and community.

Born on July 6, 1968, in the rural county of Changyang, Hubei, China, Shouxin was the first person in his village to pursue post-secondary education. As the eldest of a large yet close-knit family, he became a source of inspiration of how perseverance could open doors once thought unimaginable.

In 2001, Shouxin immigrated to Toronto with his wife and twin daughters. Like many immigrants, he rebuilt his life from the ground up, taking on whatever work he could find while adapting to a new country and language. After the devastating loss of his beloved wife in 2012, he continued forward with unwavering grit. He found his professional home as an electrician at MillerKnoll Inc., where he worked for 22 years and became a trusted colleague and cherished friend. He also enjoyed serving others as a part-time real estate agent, helping families find not just houses, but homes.

Shouxin believed that love was best expressed through action. He was a man of few words, yet his quiet acts of kindness spoke volumes. He showed his love by preparing a favourite meal, fixing what was broken, offering a ride, remembering birthdays, and lending a helping hand without hesitation. He welcomed countless newcomers to Canada by meeting them at the airport, helping them settle in, and making a new country feel like home. To know Shouxin was to know you would never face life’s challenges alone.

Above all, Shouxin was a devoted family man. He was a trusted confidant to his siblings, a father figure to his nieces and nephews, and the steady foundation upon which his family relied. His greatest source of pride are his twin daughters. Through his example, he taught them to work hard but remain humble, care deeply but laugh often, and to always show up for the people you love.

Even throughout his illness, he met each challenge with gratitude rather than complaint, humour rather than bitterness, and quiet strength rather than self-pity. His first instinct was never to dwell on himself, but to ask about others, reassure those who worried about him, and celebrate the successes of those he loved. Until his final days, he greeted everyone with his signature warm smile.

Shouxin will be remembered as a man whose kindness asked for nothing in return. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Mimi and Shirley; his father, Shishou; his siblings; his nieces and nephews; and a community of dear friends whose lives are richer for having known him.

Shouxin will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
