Vanniasinkam Joseph Bala

Surrounded by his loving family, Joseph Bala was called to the Lord on April 3, 2025.
We remember a deeply cherished man—beloved husband to Princess, and a devoted father to Lakshmi, Joseph Indhiran, and Anthony Iswaran. He was a kind and supportive father-in-law to Kit Smithers, Anne-Marie, and Manju, and a doting grandfather to Natalia, Jude, Jehan, Roshan, Yasmine, Sidney, and Penelope, all of whom brought him endless joy.

He was the treasured son of the late Alfred and Isabel Homer-Vanniasinkam, and the loving brother of Sumithra Vanigasooriyar (and her late husband Ravi), Chithra Gnanasegaram (and her late husband Gnanasegaram), the late Nimal (and his late wife Freda), the late Yoha, and Chandiran (married to Anoja).

He was also a much-loved son-in-law to the late Prince and Beryl Cherubim, and part of a large extended family as a brother-in-law to Nidra Rajakarier (the late Osmund), Iswaraj Cherubim (Amala), Jeyakumar Cherubim (Barbara), and Prasanth Cherubim (Chemi).
After a long career in finance and accounting, he found a way to stay sharp in retirement by playing Bridge several times a week. His other passions included music, especially jazz, and CNN!

His kindness was often invisible to the world, but transformative to those he supported. His sense of humour, generosity, and quiet strength will be remembered with love by all who knew him.

A private burial will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Mount Lawn Cemetery.

A reception will be held after the burial from 12:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
